Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. know the causes of plant diseases 2.know the transmission manner and the epidemiology of pathogens inducing diseases in plants 3. know the methods used for diagnosis of the diseases and detection of the related pathogens 4. know the measures proposed for the control of plant diseases

Course Content (Syllabus)
Concept of the disease, biotic-abiotic causes of plant diseases. Fungi as plant pathogens: Morphology-physiology-replication. Taxonomy of fungi. Pathogenesis mechanisms. Plant defense mechanisms. Epidemiology of fungal diseases. Prokaryotic microorganisms as plant pathogens: morphology-replication-taxonomy. Diagnostic methods. Infection manner. Control of prokaryotic diseases. Viruses as plant pathogens: Virus morphology, satellite viruses and satellite RNAs. Taxonomy. Diagnosis. Infection of plants and replication/movement of viruses. Virus epidemiology and control.
