Upon successful completion of the course the students are able to: - develop reasoning on the societies of the Middle East and the role that religions play in them - understand the pluralistic religious context of the Middle East - describe he Arabic culture and its multiple dimensions (language, literature, sciences) -become familiar with the methodology of the sociology -be sensitive in the peculiarities of the academic study of non-European societies

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to introduce students to the study of the relationship between religion and society in the Middle East. More specifically, it explores the historical and geographical formation of the Middle East, the Arab nationalism and the formation of modern Arab states, the social and political role of religions of the Middle East, the position of the various religious communities (Muslim, Christian, Jewish, etc.). It explores also issues of religion and daily life, as well as issues of Arab culture, such as language, literature and sciences.
