An Interior for Architecture
The studio is studying the possibilities of remodeling the interior of a building shell, based on a specific functional program. It attempts to discuss aspects and critical issues of architectural design, emphasizing on:
– The existing building shell, as an ensemble of material and intangible features that define the terms of interiority,
– The style and the intensity of the relationship between the new arrangement and the maintained structure of the building,
– The inter-feeding between the functional-building program and the concept, the control, as far as possible, of the developing dynamics in their mutual modification,
– The persistent transition from the diagrammatic logic of the concept to the final formulation of the design proposals, and
– The human, not as a simple or casual user of the new arrangement, but as a constant active and formative reference point during the design process.
The subject of the course is the design of the interior of the Warehouse 8 in the Port of Thessaloniki. We aim to create a "Forum for Architecture", an "interior" dedicated to architecture and the city of Thessaloniki. The concept of "internal" is considered as an ambiguous and provocative concept, as a concept always under determination during the architectural design process.
