1. Important parasitic diseases of the dog and cat (Heartworm disease, Leishmaniasis, ecto- and endo-parasitoses) 2. Selected canine and feline Neurologic disorders (diffuse neuromyopathies, feline neurological diseases) 3. Advanced canine and feline Cardiology (management of acute and chronic congestive heart failure) 4. Wet labs: Introduction to skin biopsy techniques in the dog and cat, cine-loops of most common heart diseases, cytological and parasitological examination in heartworm and leishmaniasis, methodology of the neurologic examination

Companion Animal Medicine Ι (elective course) Theory 1st hour Skin disorders of abnormal keratinization in the dog and cat 2nd hour Diagnostic approach of canine alopecia 3rd hour Diagnostic approach of chronic/recurrent otitis in the dog 4th hour Canine and feline ectoparasite prevention and treatment 5th hour Emergency and long-term treatment of congestive heart failure in the dog and cat 6th hour Diagnostic approach of canine diffuse neuromuscular diseases 7th hour Important feline neurological diseases 8th-11th hour Diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniosis and dirofillariosis in the dog 12th-13th hour Comprehensive preventive antiparasitic programmes in the dog and cat Practical part (Wet lab) 2 hours How to perform a skin biopsy in the dog and cat 2 hours Video-assisted demonstration of common canine and feline cardiomyopathies 2 hours Neurological examination of the dog and cat 2 hours Practical training in the microscope for the cytological identification of Leishmania amastigotes and microfilariae (Knott method)
