Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
1. have knowledge of the parasites of carnivores (dogs, cats), Equidae and pigs
2. have knowledge of the life cycle and thus the ways of infection and prevention of infection of the animals
3. have knowledge of the pathogenicity of the parasites as well as the lesions and clinical signs that the parasites cause to their hosts
4. have knowledge of the antiparasitic drugs and treatments
5. have knowledge of the implications of these parasites to Public Health and the measures for the prevention of infection in humans
Course Content (Syllabus)
1-6 hour. Protozoan parasites of pigs, horses and part of protozoan parasites of carnivores (and associated diseases).
7-11 hour. Trematodes-cestodes of pigs, horses and carnivores (and associated diseases).
12-17 hours. Nematodes of pigs, horses and carnivores, except filarial and lung parasites (and associated diseases).
18-23 hours. Filariae and pulmonary nematodes of horses and carnivores (and associated diseases), part of protozoan parasites of carnivores.
24-29 hours. Arthropods of pigs, horses and carnivores (and associated diseases).
