Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
1. have knowledge of the parasites of ruminants, birds, and lagomorphs
2. have knowledge of the life cycle and thus the ways of infection and prevention of infection of the animals
3. have knowledge of the pathogenicity of the parasites as well as the lesions and clinical signs that the parasites cause to their hosts
4. have knowledge of the antiparasitic drugs and treatments
5. have knowledge of the implications of these parasites to Public Health and the measures for the prevention of infection in humans
Course Content (Syllabus)
1-3 hours. Introduction to the course of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases. Introduction to cestodes. Cestoda - cestodoses of birds (PA)
4 to 9 hours. Introduction to nematodes. Nematodes - nematodoses of birds (LFA)
10-11 hours. Introduction to protozoa and arthropods. Protozoa-protozooses and arthropod-arthropodoses of birds (US)
12-16 hours. Cestoda-cestodoses of ruminants. Introduction to trematodes. Trematodes-trematodoses of ruminants (PA)
17-21 hours. Nematode-nematodoseis of ruminants. Leeches (BS)
22-27 hours. Protozooses, Protozoa and arthropods-arthropodoses of ruminants (US)
28-29 hours. Parasites and Parasitic Diseases of rabbits (BS)
