Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course, students will obtain fundamental knowledge of the main thematic areas of Christian ethics and bioethics. They will be able to find ways of putting in practice this knowledge, both in issues of personal and social life. This ability offers the opportunity to make an edifying comparison between Christian ethics and contrasting principles emerging from current social life.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course examines a vast number of topics relating to the fundamental meanings of Christian ethics. The interest of this course is concentrated upon the Christian moral life as it can be expressed in the spiritual life, the interpersonal communication, the relationship between man and God and people socialization. The focus is also upon the perspective of Christian ethics in the modern ethical challenges that emerge from the fields of medicine and biotechnology. In this framework are examined topics such as virtue, sin, prayer, marriage, family, work, violence and issues of bioethics, such as euthanasia and abortion.
1. The knowledge of good.
2. The evil and passions.
3. The absolut nature and the adaptability of Christian ethics.
4. Spiritual life: the cultivation of virtues.
5. Spiritual life: repentance, faith and hope.
6. Spiritual life: love and freedom.
7. Social ethics: marriage, labor, wealth and poverty.
8. Social ethics: social problems and philanthropy.
9. Social ethics: authority, violence and war.
10. Bioethics: the approach of Christian ethics.
11. Bioethics: the ethical view of euthanasia (the modern discussion).
12. Bioethics: the ethical view of euthanasia (the perspective of christian ethics).
13. Bioethics: the ethical view of abortion.

Student Assessment
Description
There is an oral examination, which takes place in small groups of 4-5 students. The voluntary undertaking and presentation of a topic in the class is taken into account (in 20%) for the total assessment of the student’s performance.
