Course Content (Syllabus)
The intense reflection that developed on the direction of scientific research, the development of new methods and applications, as well as on the limits that should be placed on interventions on human life led to the creation of a new discipline, bioethics. Bioethics evaluates scientific achievements, elaborates ethical principles, weighs up the benefits, potential risks and, more generally, the consequences of research and its applications, and is ultimately called upon to decide whether what is scientifically feasible is at the same time ethically correct and serves the interests of human beings. But what is considered to be morally right and in man's interest? In this seminar, contemporary approaches to bioethics are studied, the principles set forth are evaluated, and the Christian approach to bioethics is explored. 1. Ethical theories and principles 2. Autonomy, paternalism and informed consent. 3. The ethical consideration for the unborn human. 4. Ethical issues in neonatology. 5. Assisted reproduction. 6. Reproductive and therapeutic cloning. 7. The ethical consideration at the end of life. 8. Advanced directives and living will. 9. Palliative care. 10. Organ Transplantation. 11. Organ sale from an ethical point of view. 12. Enhancement. 13.
