1) To understand the form and dimensions of the Earth as a planet
2) To familiarize themselves with the use of topographical and geological maps, cartographic projections and projection systems used to construct maps of Greece
3) To understand the principles of topographical surveying

7) To familiarize themselves with the basic notions of Geography, in order to be able to teach them at secondary education level

• Introduction. History of Geography. Branches of Geography. Geography and new technologies.
• Fundamental geographical concepts (geospatial data and information, scale, measurements, accuracy and reliability of measurements, errors).
• Earth as a celestial body. The shape and dimensions of the Earth. Earth’s movements. Elements of Geodesy.
• Coordinate reference systems. Geodetic Reference Systems and Projections in Greece and worldwide.

Use of topographic and geological map in digital and analog format (orientation, relief, morphological sections)
Measurements of angles, distances and inclinations, with instruments such as: compass, slider, laser distance meters, theodolite, etc.
Using GNSS (Horizontal Coordinates, Elevations).
