Learning Outcomes
• Understanding the required elements for completing a geological map and a geological cross section. • Recognizing basic geological elements in a map. • Learning how to calculate elements pertaining to the geometry of cartographical units and geological structures. • Perception of the interaction of the topography and the geological structure in an area. • Determination of the geological history of an area using a geological map. • Understanding the methodology of geological mapping through field work. • Development of orientation and field logging skills. • Learning how to compile a geological map and cross section using original data.

Course Content (Syllabus)
• Fundamental principles of geological maps. • Topography and its relationship to the geological structures. • Geological maps – 3D measurements. • Geological cross sections. • Identification of geological contacts. • Unconformities and their representation in geological maps. • Mapping deformational structures (faults and folds). • Geological mapping of special cases (igneous, metamorphic and diapiric rocks, deposits, tectonites). • Field geological mapping. • Hands-on training in the field on geological mapping. • Fieldwork safety. • Methods of geological work, use of compass and geological problems in the field. • Compilation of geological maps and cross sections in the field. • Compilation of a technical report annexed to the geological map.
