Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will know: • The main industrial minerals and rocks of Greece. • How they were formed. • The reserves and their geographical distribution in the Greek area. • Mining and processing methods for the production of minerals useful as raw materials in industry. • The uses and applications that have and the properties to be measured for each. • Protective measures during the exploitation and use of industrial minerals and rocks. They will also be able, in a general context, to evaluate and propose potential areas in Greece where research could be conducted to find and lead to exploitation of industrial minerals and rocks using geological / petrological / mineralogical criteria.

Course Content (Syllabus)
• Classification of industrial minerals and rocks. o Genesis of industrial minerals and rocks deposits o Main applications of industrial minerals and rocks. • Industrial minerals deposits: o Asbestos, o Quartz raw materials, o Feldspars, o Magnesite, o Talc • Industrial rocks deposits: o Perlite, o Clays, other than bentonite and Kaolin o Bentonite, o Kaolin, o Phosphorites o Zeolitic tuffs o Marbles
