Learning Outcomes
•Understanding the geological structure and evolution of the Hellenic Orogen in the geological time. •Learning the tectonostratigraphy of the geotectonic zones of the Hellenides. •Understanding the geotectonic importance of the geotectonic zones in the Hellenic Orogen and the broader alpine orogenetic system in Europe and Asia. •Understanding the potential economical impact of the individual geotectonic belts. •Understanding the evolution of the broader geotectonic environment.

Course Content (Syllabus)
•Greece in the frame of the world geotectonic system. •Geotectonic zones of Greece. •Detailed description (lithostratigraphy, magmatism, tectonic structure) of the Hellenic hinterland, the internal Hellenides zones and the external Hellenides zones. •Post-alpine formations of Greece. •Local geological subjects. •Geological cross sections of Greece. •General principles of Geodynamics – the geotectonic cycle. •Geotectonic evolution of the Tethyan orogenetic system in Greece.
