Learning Outcomes
• to learn the importance of physicochemical characteristics of seawater (temperature, salinity, density, sound and light propagation in water) as tool in oceanographic research.
• Understand the laws governing the movement of ocean water masses, marine currents, tides and waves.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Physical and chemical properties of sea-water (salinity, temperature, density, optical properties). Dynamic oceanography (currents, waves, tides). Geomorphology and sedimentation processes on the ocean floor, the continental margins, the continental shelf, the continental slope and the coastal zone. Description of instruments for measuring oceanographic parameters and methods for the investigation of marine sediments.
Keywords
Oceanography, marine currents, waves, tides.
