Learning Outcomes
Subject Matter Objectives: 1. Understand basic characteristics of the atmosphere, its structure, and its dynamics. 2. Understand the role of the earth’s surface and oceans in forcing and regulating atmospheric processes. 3. Be able to explain meteorological phenomena at various scales in terms of basic physical and dynamic processes, including radiative forcing, thermodynamics, microphysics, and dynamics. 4. Know the design and use of meteorological instruments, and techniques for collecting and interpreting the data. 5. Be able to read and interpret various meteorological weather maps. 6. Be able to explain current climate in terms of basic physical and dynamical processes, and explain the mechanisms responsible for climate change. 7. Communicate an understanding of weather and climate orally and graphically. Skills Objectives: 1. Develop their understanding of atmospheric processes through an examination of processes operating within the real world 2. Awareness of the connections of meteorology within the environmental sciences and/or the social sciences, and to demonstrate meteorology’s importance within these endeavors 3. To introduce students to new skills involved in meteorological research 4. Be able to explain ideas and results through written, graphical and oral of communication. 5. Qualified for admission into graduate programs in meteorology, climatology and atmospheric science.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The atmosphere. The earth movements. Solar and terrestrial radiation. Air temperature. Air humidity. Atmospheric thermodynamics. Air stability. Clouds and precipitation. Atmospheric pressure and winds. Atmospheric disturbances - Weather systems. General circulation of the Atmosphere. Exercises and laboratory on the meteorological observation.
