Course Content (Syllabus)
The module offers an introduction to theory and applications of Microbiology with emphasis on its use in Chemical Engineering. In particular it covers:
• types and properties of micro-organisms and infectious agents
• microbial growth (theory and application)
• qualitative and quantitative evaluation of presence of micro organisms
• sterilization (theory and application)
• influence of physicochemical factors on microbial growth
• mathematical calculations of relevant quantities, lab demonstration and examples of applications with emphasis in Chemical Engineering .
