Elements of engineering seismology: Generation and geographical distribution of earthquakes . Strong ground motion and its recording. Magnitude and intensity. Seismic hazard and risk. Elements of earthquake engineering: basic concepts. Elastic response spectra. Inelastic response – hysteretic damping – ductility. Design spectra. Analysis of reinforced concrete buildings for seismic actions. Ductility of reinforced concrete members and structures. Concrete, Steel, and Bond under seismic loading. Beams under monotonic and cyclic loading. Conceptual framework of code provisions for seismic design. Reinforced concrete columns, walls, and beam-column joints under seismic loading. Seismic pathology. Technology of shoring, repair and retrofitting. Examples of retrofitting – Effectiveness of structural member retrofitting utilizing FRPs.
