Learning Outcomes
After successful completion, students are expected to understand the nature and parameters of the thermal & energy budget of a building, and to relate this knowledge to all building construction studies. At the end, students are expected to provide optimum building design solutions of high energy performance.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Climate, energy and buildings: The role of climate parameters. History of energy demand in buildings. The problem of energy resources. Energy and thermal balance of buildings: Parameters of thermal balance, thermal comfort conditions, heating and cooling energy demand. Heat flows in building shell. Energy gains and losses. Management of thermal flows, the role of thermal mass. Shading of buildings. Principles of energy conscious design of buildings. Microclimatic conditions, orientation, building use, conventional and advanced materials and systems for energy conservation. Passive Solar Heating systems, Systems and techniques for natural cooling. Advances building energy simulation methodologies.
