Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the course, the students will be able:
• to understand the effects of population concentration and of the activities on regional development, the intra-regional relations of mutual influence and dependence on settlements, the relationship between the regional organization and the intra-urban structure of cities, the concept of metropolis and the structure and organization of the wider metro area, the content, and methodology of development-regulatory studies and application studies,
• to know the regional organization and policy in Greece, the institutional framework and the methodological approach of regional development interventions and applications, the regional policy of the European Union, the situation in the Third World,
• to check the feasibility of the proposals through the current legislative framework and the existing financial and management parameters, and
• to develop local development plans and local development programs.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The consequences from the concentration of population and activities in the regional development. Intraregional relations and influence of each other and dependence of settlements. Intraregional relations and influence and the dependence of settlements. Value of regional organization and structure of internal structure of cities. The concept of metropolis and its structure and organization of the metropolitan area. The regional organization and policy in Greece. Institutional framework and methodological approach of interventions and applications. Control of feasibility of proposals through the being in effect legal regime and the existing economic and administrative parameters. The Regional Policy of the European Union. Content and methodology development - regulatory studies and application studies. Community development projects and local development programs.
