Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• know and apply the concepts of earthquake design of geotechnical works and projects
• understand and choose the proper geotechnical parameters for earthquake resistant design
• study the earthquake response of the soil foundation
• design and study the dynamic response of various geotechnical works, such as foundations, retaining structures, slopes, abutments etc
• comprehend and solve different technical and practical problems that geotechnical engineers face in practice and are described witin the course
Course Content (Syllabus)
Soil amplification and earthquake resistant design according to the EC8 and EAK2000 (soil categories, soil amplification factors etc), basic soil dynamics, seismic bearing capacity, liquefaction, earthquake design of surface and deep foundations, retaining structures, slopes, soil - foundation - structure interaction
