Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to: • Deepen in Thermodynamic Cycles (Rankine, Brayton and combined). • Understand the theory of combustion and be able to calculate the amount of combustion air and the composition and amount of exhaust gases • Understand the operating principles of the basic types of power stations • Be able to calculate characteristic sizes of individual sections (eg steam generators, turbines, etc.) of power stations • Be able to calculate overall characteristic sizes of power stations (eg. efficiency, consumption)
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to modern power plants: conventional (steam-, air –power plants), nuclear, hydroelectric. Thermodynamic overview (Rankine, Brayton cycles). Fossil fuel steam generators. Fuels and combustion. Turbines. The condensate feedwater system. The circulating water system. Gas-turbine and combines cycles. Cogeneration. Enviromental aspects of power generation.Atmo
