Course Content (Syllabus)
The main course objectives are to explore the fundamentals of insect biology and management, and to develop an understanding and appreciation of the ecological basis for integrated pest management (IPM) as it relates to arthropods. The course begins with an overview of insect biology and ecology, then relates these to concepts of damage, risk, and the economic injury level. A significant portion of the course will then be devoted to different tactics for managing pests. Finally, the course will synthesize biology, ecology, and control tactics into a systems approach of arthropod pest management, providing examples of how IPM is applied in practice.
