Learning Outcomes
The successful completion of the course will offer to students an understanding of the main theoretical concepts in the field of Political Science. They will be familiarized with the study of political parties, party systems, political regimes as well as issues related to political behaviour and pressure groups. The courses are complemented by extensive references to different political and electoral systems in the world, offering students the basis for a broader conceptual analysis of the political phenomenon.

Course Content (Syllabus)
After introducing the students to key conceptual issues in the field of Political Science, the main objective of the course entitled Political Behaviour in the second semester is to provide a more in- depth analysis of various topics in Political Science both by presenting an overview of its main subfields, and through the analysis of the different facets of the political phenomenon Some of the courses focuses on the study of political parties and party systems, as well as on models for the study of electoral behavior. Issues of political culture and communication, the role of pressure groups and non-conventional forms of political action are presented. The course is also framed by the study of abstention and the analysis of the legitimacy crisis in Europe. In particular, the themes are: Theoretical approaches to the study of political behavior: Basic paradigms Typology of parties and party systems Elections Models of electoral behavior and analysis of electoral volatility Conventional forms of political participation and the issue of electoral abstention Social movements and non-conventional forms of participation Political culture: Classic and newer approaches Sociological Approaches: Cleavages and Dimensions of Political Competition Legitimacy crisis and democratic values ​​in Europe of multiple crises The course is offered to Erasmus students: please contact the instructor for further information
