1. History of the (ancient greek) language and language of history (Lucian, Procopius, Anna Komnena, Critobulus, K. Paparrigopoulos). Speech Genres. 2. Historiographical and fictional narration. Herodotus. Direct and indirect speech. 3. Descripition in historiography. Herodotus. Antithesis. 4. Explanation in Historiography. Herodotus. Numerals. 5. Narrator and characters in war narratives. Thucydides. Sense and thinking Verbs. 6. Types and structure of description. Arrian. Adjectives. 7. Explanation and the narratee. Polybius. Interrogative and cause clauses. 8. Personal testimony and history. J. Kaminiates. Pronouns. 9. Ekphrasis of works of art. Procopius. Etymology and meaning: Vision, seeing and beauty. 10.Types of explanation. Sp. Trikoupes.
