Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills after:
• Understand the interface points of the two scientific fields (Second Language Acquisition and Language Assessment)
• To connect theory with practice and more specifically through curricula and certification systems of language learning (and Italian learning in particular)
• Familiarize themselves with the use of tools in the European area (Council of Europe, ECML) on language acquisition, learning and assessment.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Τhe interfaces between Second Language Acquisition and Language Assessment and their applications in Italian as L2. The individual fields that will be studied are: Basic Principles of the two fields, Multilingual Assessment, Multilingual Skills and Language Needs Analysis, Alternative Methods of Assessment and Self-Assessment, Communicative Language Skills and standardisation, CEFR Levels (CEFR, CEFR-CV, LASLLIAM, Uneven Profiles), Stages of Language Development vs. Language Proficiency Levels. Individual Differences and Language Assessment (as well as Measurement of Individual Differences and Productive Skills (focusing on grades, descriptors and assessment criteria in Italian language certification systems), Language Assessment of Special Populations (bilingual students, students with special needs or learning difficulties, children, illiterate adults, etc.), language tests for migration/citizenship. At attempt will also be made to present the interface points of the two fields during the design of empirical and experimental research and the construction of reliable and valid measurement tools for SLA research purposes.
