Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course the students will be able to describe and to evaluate the historical and political factors that have influenced the historical course of the Christian Churches of the Middle East until today. To analyze the causes and conditions that influenced the developments in the Middle East. To also understand the importance of the factors that shaped, each time, the specific historical developments.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Christianity in the Middle East is an important connecting link which connects the populations of these areas with a common past until today. The concept of national geographic determination, in the above geographic area may not make sense without the permanent reference to the cultural and religious factor. The terms "geopolitics" and "Christianity" co-exist and cooperate within the historicity of cultures, especially in our time.
1. Geographical and demographic environment of the Middle East.
2. The religious geography on the Middle East.
3. The ecclesiastical geography of the Middle East until the Arab conquest.
4. The ecclesiastical geography of the Middle East after the Arab conquest.
5. The impact of the action of the Latin Church in the above area on the organisation of the local Christian churches.
6. The geopolitical crossroad.
7. The Orthodox Church in the region and its participation in the historical and political developments.
8. Issues of local Churches Ι (Alexandria).
9. Issues of local Churches IΙ (Cyprus).
10. Issues of local Churches IΙΙ (Syria-Iraq).
11. Palestinian and Antiochian Issue.
