Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the courses, postgraduate students will: a) understand the range of Church and Byzantine History sources b) use historical sources to write historical studies c) learn to combine different sources for a more complete approach to a historical issue d) acquire knowledge about specific events of Church and Byzantine History

1. What are the sources of Byzantine and Ecclesiastical History? 2. The policy of the Roman Empire towards Christians 3. Decrees of Freedom. Sources 4. Ecumenical Councils. Sources 5. The policy of the Byzantine Empire against the monophysites. Sources 6. The period of iconoclasm. Sources 7. Schisms between the East and West Churches. Sources 8. The position of the Byzantine emperors in the Church. Sources 9. The reign of Justinian. Sources 10. The Crusades, with emphasis on the fourth. Sources 11. Latin domination in Greece. Sources 12. The empire of Nicaea and the dominions of Epirus and Mystras. Sources 13. The conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks. Sources
