Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course students are familiar with the studies and the development of the Patristic literature, the publication centres, the publications and publishers of Patristic works and in the West in East and West.
They will understand Byzantium's contribution to the European Renaissance.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Presentation and analysis of the theological ferment between the East and the West along with the ways in which the West approached the Orthodox Patristic Literature. A list of titles is offered, concerning general bibliography and reference books published in the West. The need to continue publishing new or re-publishing old texts is reinforced.
1. A general Introduction. The Fathers and their importance.
2. The structure of scientific research.
3. Authenticity and prestige of Patristic Theology. The West facing towards the East.
4. a)Presentation of representative books and studies. b)Attendance of the scientific colloquium of the P.P.S. of the School, the “Exegeticum-Seminar of Orthodox Hermeneutical Theology”.
5. Publication centers, publications and publishers of Patristic texts in the West.
