Learning Outcomes
The successful completion of the research and teaching of this course aims to: - the consolidation of the methodological principles of the interpretation of doctrinal texts - understanding the reasons for the emergence of ancient heresies - distinguishing the criteria for the ecclésial formulation of the terms of faith - the importance of synodal praxis for the expression of ecclesial faith and life

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course invites the exploration of the function of theology. After recalling the basic theological distinctions between theology and economie, charismatic and scientific theology, the reason why these theological principles emerged in the historical context and the dialogue between the theologians of the Church and the thought of their time is examined. What exactly are the hermeneutical keys with which the great fathers in the first five centuries formulated Christian thought in a fruitful confrontation with the great heresies, with a focus on the approach to the biblical texts? The educational process is through textual analysis. At the end of the course, the difficulties of writing a postgraduate thesis more specifically in the subject of the History of Dogmas are analysed, as this is the purpose of studying in a postgraduate programme. The following sections structure the teaching diagram: 1. Clarification of the terms theology, theology, theological science 2. The particularity of the History of Dogmas theological area. Presuppositions and criteria for the interpretation of the theological thought of St. Athanasius according to Prof. Nikos Matsoukas 7. Presuppositions and criteria of a ecclesial hermeneutical approach to the Bible according to Prof. Despo Lialiou and her interpretation of St. Gregory the Theologian. 8. Presuppositions and criteria for a ecclesial hermeneutical approach to the synoptic texts according to Prof. Despo Lialiou and her interpretation of St. Cyril of Alexandria. 9. Historical-dogmatic analysis of some patristic texts in response to the Arian controversy 10. Historical-dogmatic analysis of some Arianism texts and Arian symbols 11. Presentations of papers 12.
