Course Content (Syllabus)
There will be a reference in ekphonetic notation and the way of reading. Also, the type of Doxology, Cherubic and Communion Hymn, as they are recorded in the Byzantine musical tradition, will be studied. In addition, it will be presented the type of Mathematarion or Kalophonic Sticherarion as recorded in the music manuscripts and interpreted by Chourmouzios Chartofylax. 1. The ekphonetic notation and the read-ing of lectionary. 2. Doxology, a typical example of the hymnography by verse. 3. The creation of Doxology as a chant form, around 1620 (Melchise-dek the Bishop of Raidestos). 4. Doxologies of the 17th century. -Doxologies of the 18th and 19th century. 5. Theory and Practice with Doxology: A’ The "first" modes α’ and plagal a’ B’ The "fourth" modes δ΄and plagal δ΄ C’ The "third" modes γ’ and grave D’ The "second" modes β΄ and plagal β΄ 6. Byzantine Cherubic and Commun-ion Hymn: "Sigisato", Nikiforos Ithi-kos, and "Aineite" by Ioannis Koukouzelis. 7. Cherubic and Communion Hymn of 17th (Panagiotes the New Chrysaphes and Balasis the priest). 8. Cherubic and Communion Hymn of 18th (Daniel Protopsaltis and Petros Peloponnesios). 9.
