Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will become familiar with the understanding of the structures and functions of the Greek political system and political parties after 1974, with particular emphasis on the study of the populist phenomenon.
They will be able to analyze for each parliamentary election the axes of political and electoral competition and the electoral behavior of the electorate in each constituency.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course studies the development and functions of political parties in the post-1974 period. In this context, it tracks the various organizational, political and ideological aspects of party formation in Greece, especially against the background of the gradual of institutionalisation of social radicalism. A central feature of the course is the multi-level study of PASOK, SYRIZA and the main component of the post-1974 party and political system.
For each elevtion the axes of political competinion were analyzed: "left-right", "liberalism-authoritarianism", "cooperation-isoliatinism" and groups of parties and constituencies are formed and analyzed.
