Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1) To realize a first level of the laws governing the functioning of natural ecosystems. 2) To acquire the foundations for the development of understanding and assimilation capacity of the specialized subjects of Forestry Science.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the science of Ecology, definitions. Auto-ecology (relationships and interactions between organisms and environmental factors). Population ecology (population concept, population characteristics, population regulation mechanisms). Synecology: Ecosystem definition, ecosystem structure and function analysis. Factors affecting ecosystem stability. Biogeochemical cycles: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), cycle of carbon (C), Greenhouse effect. Biodiversity, levels (categories) of biodiversity, value of biodiversity and basic principles for its preservation and enhancement.
