Course Content (Syllabus)
Data concerning the ecology and biology of the main fish species of inland waters of Greece. Description, habitats, diet, reproduction, and usefulness of fish. Effects of abiotic factors on inland fish, density, salinity, organic salts, pollution, and heavy metals. Adaptations of fish to temperature, dissolved gases, suspended solids to light and fish coloration. Adaptations of fish movement in running water. Effects of fish on the abiotic environment. Endospecific and interspecific relationships of fish and relationships with other organisms. General description of the diversity of the inland fish fauna and the threats to endangered species in Greece. Categorization, endemicity indicators and fisheries management. Alien fish species, threats, protection and rational management of habitats, species, and fish populations.
