Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
-Examine the history of Modern Greek Poetry from 1789 to 1914 featuring creative and analytical approaches, using a method, organizing a system and operating transitions from theory to practice.
-Appreciate this period of Modern Greek Poetry in relation to the history of movements (literary and political) and ideas.
-Comprehend and distinguish between the literary movements of the era and formulate their principles on thematics and rhetoric succinctly.
-Connect theory to practice in applying principles of thematics and rhetoric to the reading of texts.
-Collect, operate and evaluate research data.
-Design, compose and present papers towards the integration of knowledge, the critical assessment of issues and the introduction of new, original ideas.
-Organize projects and solve problems both at individual and team work level.

Course Content (Syllabus)
History of Modern Greek Poetry from 1789 to 1914 through the study of representative poetic texts. Emphasis is being placed on matters of form, thematics and style as well as the conceptualisation of the texts in their historical framework.
All students regardless of their level of studies can opt for this module.

Description
Integrated use of information technology in the classroom for word and powerpoint presentations during face to face teaching and through the internet for bibliographic information and online communication of the students with their tutors. Students have also access to information technology at the space especially equipped by the Department with computer software and hardware and digital technology infrastructure including internet and web services to facilitate word processing and internet access.

Student Assessment
Description
Assessment is mainly based on a written comprehensive examination administered at the end of the term. This final subject exam comprises questions inviting both short and essay-type answers testing writing proficiency. The marks each question attracts are noted at the rubric as students have already been informed about the grading criteria qualitative and quantitative throughout the semester in class, during office hours and through online communication. Students are also given the option of undertaking writing assignments which contribute to their final assessment. Alternative assessment is offered in the form of writing assignments or essays in Modern Greek or any other language especially in the case of Erasmus Exchange students.
