Learning Outcomes
(a) To acquaint students with the various types of scribal errors.
(b) To help students understand the open and closed manuscript tradition.
(c) To enable students to read, understand and interpret the apparatus criticus of an edited ancient text.
Course Content (Syllabus)
This class is designed exclusively for classics majors. The object of this course is to introduce students to the understanding of the errors made by scribes who copy ancient texts and to the methodology employed in order to reconstruct and edit an ancient text in a form as close as possible to the original.
