Learning Outcomes
The students learn to view a Greek poetic genre synchronically and diachronically. They understand how and when the conventions of the genre took shape, which innovations were introduced by its various representatives, and what influence they had on later poets. The students also learn to critically assess the bibliography and propose well-documented and substantiated research theses.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on a Greek poetic genre and aims at familiarizing the students with its main representatives, conventions and evolution. The students also become familiar with modern theoretical approaches to the genre, cover basic recent bibliography and write a paper of their choice from a list of subjects provided by the instructor.
