Learning Outcomes
Desired aims:
(a) to help students acquire a thorough knowledge of Greek prose literature, a text or a series of texts.
(b) to make students familiar with at least a part of the vast secondary literature on the specific topic that is taught in the seminar.
(c) to enable students to write a scholarly paper and present it to an audience, by teaching them the basic skills and prerequisites as well as all necessary stages in such a process.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This class is designed exclusively for classics majors. The object of the course is the linguistic and interpretive analysis of a prose work with the aim of writing a scholarly paper on a specialized topic. In particular, the course is a specialized seminar, which investigates in depth a specific topic pertaining to the current research activity developed around a Greek prose writer, a text or a series of texts, employing both traditional methods and current trends in classical scholarship. The students are trained in gathering and using both primary and secondary sources, in understanding the principles of writing a scholarly paper as well as in presenting their paper orally. The course makes ample use of all technological facilities, such as power point, specialized sites available on internet (e.g. TLG, The Gate to the Greek Language, the program about the Erasmic pronunciation). All necessary external links are made available directly on the webpage of the course (elearning).
