Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students:
1. Have understood the basic principles, methods and problems of the cartographic process.
2. They can search, evaluate, georeference, transform and homogenize primary cartographic data from different digital and analog sources.
3. Complete the digital compilation of a cartographic product, primary or derivative map, ready for reproduction in multiple copies.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Cartographic perception. Physical structure of the graphic image. Cartographic Data Bases. Basic principles and rules of the cartographic procedure. Automatization of map compilation and production. Principles, problems and optimization of cartographic composition. Selection, evaluation, data preprocessing. sheet composition and graphic symbolization. Paper size standardization. Color and color options. Relief issues. Toponymy and writing rules. Communication features of cartographic composition. Materials and systems of design, production and reproduction. Processes and organization of production, essays, tests, corrections. reproduction technology and map folding. Updates and revisions. Cartographic documentation and archiving.
