Learning Outcomes
In this course the structure, the mechanical and the physical properties for basic building materials such as stones, binders and mortars, aggregates, bricks/tiles and wood are analyzed. The aim (for the students of the first semester)is to get acquainted with the materials and their role in the structures. The aim of the course is to allow students to develop criteria on the suitability, technology, and pathology of the materials. With the successful compliance of the course the students can: - Learn about the role of the structure on the materials' properties -Learn the role of the mortars -Learn the differences of the binders and their role to the mortars' properties -Learn how to desigh smooth aggregate granulometry -Learn about wood technology - Learn the differences between the rocks - Learn basic masonry approaches -Basic knowledge for recycling material
