Course Content (Syllabus)
This course proposes a panoramic overview of French novel throughout the centuries, combining a historical with a stylistic approach. It deals with the evolution, forms and transformations of the novel, as well as with the literary movements and tendencies from the Middle Ages to 21th century, through a selection of representative extracts from novels of eminent French writers. During lectures, the students will also watch a number of film extracts based on French novels.

10. The naturalistic/ realistic novel: Flaubert, Zola
11. The Belle Époque novel : Fournier, Proust
12. The interwar period novel: Aragon, Colette, Gide, Malraux, etc.
13. The existentialist novel : Sartre, Camus, Beauvoir
