Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course typical students are expected: a) to understand the basic concepts of descriptive terminology; b) to know different techniques of term extraction; c) to have access to the Greek terminology and documentation; d) to create terminology records.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course aims to initiate students to the basic concepts of terminology; to teach them the different terminology extraction methods and to present the terminological resources available fro technical translators. To this end, students are invited to work on authentic specialized texts and to use IT tools, such as term bases, term extractors, CAT tools, electronic corpora, etc. Course syllabus: 1st session Basic concepts of Terminology: term-word, notion-term-object 2nd session Terminology Extraction Models: Terminology Extraction Tools (open access) 3rd session Best practices for terminology research I 4th session Best practices for terminology research II 5th session Documentation Resources and reliability of resources 6th session Terminology Record: data categories, manual/ electronic storage 7th session Terminology management tools: term bases I 8th session Terminology management tools: term bases II 9th session Terminology management tools: term bases III 10th session Final project: working session I 11th session Final project: working session II 12th session Final project: presentation 13th session Final project: presentation

Description
Both courses and the exams take place in a computer laboratory, where students get trained in term mining by using electronic corpora, term extractors, and CAT tools. The course material is published on e-class. Students can communicate with the instructor either by e-mail or via the platform of e-class.

Description
The assessment for this course consists of continuous evaluation during the semester, participation in classwork (weight: 40%) and a final project(weight: 60%). The assessment procedure is presented in the course description on e-learning, described in outline in the courses guide, and explained to the students.
