Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this module, students will be able to: • To understand the patterns of aging according to the system under study. • Define the basic function of the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, urinary system, endocrine system, gastrointestinal system, brain, and sensory organs. • Define basic concepts and functions such as artery and vein, heart rate, volume overload, decreased vascular compliance, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. • Define basic concepts and functions, such as the chest wall, compliance and elasticity of the lungs, oxygen consumption, dyspnea, and respiratory consequences of infections. • Describe and define concepts such as the balance between water and salt and ions, kidney function, dehydration, metabolism of drugs excreted by the kidneys, bladder, urination, and other diseases that affect it. To assess changes in hormone production and levels with age. • Understand basic concepts and functions such as digestion, absorption of nutrients, swallowing, esophageal motility, and intestinal function. • Understand and define concepts and functions such as reduced sleep efficiency, insomnia, thermoregulation, hearing, sight, smell, and taste.
