Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
-understand the principles in creative educational approaches of dance for children, aiming to social-emotional, cognitive and motoric development.
-be able to create innovative programs for inter-cultural and inter-disciplinary approaches through dance in a context of typical and non-typical education.
-to be able to manage research methods and tools, so they can investigate issues related to the effect of dance on children of typical and non-typical development.
-to be able to use gained, up-to-date, scientific knowledge and practical experience for assessment and documentation of innovative programs’ effectiveness in dance education to children.
-to be able to create inter-disciplinary cooperations with research groups or/and groups for educational interventions, knowing well the possibilities of good use of creative movement and dance to preschool and primary school children, for the development, civilization, inclusion and for other cognitive subjects’ perception.
Course Content (Syllabus)
This course’s aims are a) the study of the potentiality of multifaceted pedagogical management and implementation of dance forms in formal and non-formal learning contexts and b) the students’ familiarization and experimentation with research methods found in scientific references on dance in educational context. Semiotics of the Art of dance, the cultural offer of dance, appropriate teaching methods for the kindergarten and the primary school are approached through creative dance, Greek traditional, dances of the world and other types that can be offered as means of expression, creation, communication and learning. The value of rhythmic movement and dance is explored as means to the improvement of typical and non-typical children’s psychomotor development . The students study contemporary scientific data on this subject and they participate in artistic expression’s and teaching simulation’s experiential workshops, gaining proficiency for flexible pedagogical approach of dance and creative movement in school. Important parts of this course are the intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches through expressive body movement, that highlight the place of dance as an element of culture and learning in education. Finally, alternative forms of movement exploration with scientific background, such as Dance-therapy, are considered theoretically and practically under the light of a pedagogical perspective.
