Course Content (Syllabus)
The course belongs to the field of Psycholinguistics and specializes in first language acquisition in children with neurotypical and atypical development (Williams syndrome, Specific Language Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorders). It begins with the presentation of theories of language development which elaborate on basic principles of language as a cognitive system and then focuses on the development of language skills since birth till about the age of 5 years. It then compares typical language development to cases of language development in neurodevelopmental disorders to identify the facets of language that are more severely affected.
