Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to - describe the many different ways in which new technologies can provide solutions to the problems of modern cities - identify ways to develop spatial intelligence in cities and city districts - acknowledge different forms of citizen participation in solving urban problems - design and implement smart city strategies.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on the paradigm of intelligent cities, a new example of urban planning and development,. The aim of the course is to examine the different ways in which developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) affect (a) the urban environment at different spatial scales (city, neighbourhood, neighbourhood, building), (b) how cities operate and organise and (c) the production of innovation and emergence of intelligence in the urban area. The course examines the interaction of society/individuals and technology in the urban context using examples of cities around the world that have developed broadband networks, digital services to support their operation but also typical applications and solutions by sector (transport, energy, governance).
