  • Be critical and self-critical
  • Advance free, creative and causative thinking
Course Content (Syllabus)
Environmental Design I analyzes and examines: • the macro- and micro-climatic parameters that affect building design, • the properties of the materials that form the urban and natural landscape and determine the energy, environmental and ecological dimension of the design process, • the principles for the energy-efficient design of building envelopes: sun protection and sun protection systems, thermal flow/thermal insulation, sound and sound insulation of building elements, ventilation and natural cooling, size and quality of transparent elements/natural lighting etc. along with the strategic, architectural and mechanical systems required for a holistic approach to environmental architectural design, both in new implementations and in existing settlements and groups of buildings.

Student Assessment
Description
Students are evaluated through an assignment, delivered at the end of the semester. During the course of “Environmental Design I” students undertake a theoretical research project, of around 3.000 words, which investigates an environmental parameter or/and an environmental feature that was analyzed at the module’s weekly lectures.
Student Assessment methods
  • Written Assignment (Formative, Summative)
