Students will be able to control the basic lithostratigraphic and taphonomic context of fossil and fossiliferous deposits and be able to synthesize paleontological data in a biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic context

Course Content (Syllabus)
Principles and laws of stratigraphy (for non-geologists). Biostratigraphy - principles and methods. Magnetostratigraphy and palaeontological data. Principles of sequence stratigraphy. Principles and criteria of chronostratigraphy. Basic principles of cyclostratigraphy; climatic cycles; MIS. Principles and methods of Taphonomy- Interpretation of taphonomic data. Terrestrial and marine depositional environments, phase determination criteria and phase analysis. Interpretation of sedimentary record, depositional history of sedimentary sequences
