Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course the students are expected to: •Know about the social dimension of theatre. •Know the dominant approaches – applications of theatre/drama in cultural and social organizations. •To learn and be able to recognize and respond to the particularities of each social and cultural context. •To choose the most appropriate method of applied theatre in education for each group and context. •To choose the most appropriate techniques for each lesson and each pedagogical objective. • To plan / design a theatre in education lesson, workshop or project for non-official education contexts.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In the context of this module the students can study and experience through practical workshops the ways in which theatre included and used in different social and cultural contexts. In this framework, theatre functions as an experienced, creative and multimodal methodology and is used according to the needs of its socio-cultural environment. During this semester, students explore the dominant approaches of theatre in education which are oriented in a social goal or intervention. The content of the sessions focuses on the development of intercultural abilities, on the empowerment of vulnerable social groups, on the recognition of different identities (depending on culture, religion, gender, etc.), on the participation of young people in the public sphere, on the democratization of arts and on the broadening of arts’ audiences. Sessions’ planning 1rt session: Introductory lecture: theatre in society: artistic and educational contexts, dominant approaches. 2nd session: Theatre in cultural organizations as a medium of approaching young audiences. 3rd session: Theatre in the museum: «Giving life to sculptures and paintings». 4th session: Educational projects in the museum: exploring culture through drama 5th session: Theatre and Human Rights 6th session: Theatre of the Oppressed: ‘talking’ through images and actions. 7th session: Drama and Second Language Learning (SLL) 8th session: Theatrical Games and antiracist education. 9th session: Theatre-in-Education: programs for juvenile delinquency and social rehabilitation 10th session: Theatre-in-Education in the hospital. 11th session: Groups’ presentations, reflection and feedback. 12th session: Groups presentations, reflection and feedback. 13th session: Recapitulation, reflection and preparation of the exams.
