Knowledge and interests about byzantine culture and about topics in byzantine painting
Learning Outcomes
Special knowledge and familiarisation with the byzantine painting and with the role of the portable icons in the frame of the byzantine culture. Learning to write an essay with scientific characteristics. Familiarisation with the research and specialized bibliography. Methods of presenting specialised topics and ways of knowledge transmission

Course Content (Syllabus)
The thematical topics of the Seminar may differ according to the semester and to the teacher. Special themes are selected either from the topographic area (e.g. Topography of Constantinople, of Thessaloniki, of Epirus, etc.), or from topics of broad cultural interest (Ottoman architecture, Crusader's art), or from focused research fields (Iconography, Iconology, Numismatics, illuminated manuscripts etc.). The basic information is delivered by the teacher during the first lectures as also the instructions for the bibliography, the structure and the characteristic of the essays (1-3). The following lectures are supported by the presentation of the individual essays of the students. Also special articles may be discussed in class. The seminar course may be completed by an educational trip.
