Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will acquire the following knowledge, abilities or skills: 1. Knowledge of the types and operating principles of forest industries. 2. The ability to plan the space, the facilities, the production lines, the movement of the machinery / transport vehicles of the forest industries, etc. 3. Knowledge of the factors affecting the operation of forest industries (conditions that should be met, organization and ensuring smooth operation) 4. Knowledge of safety rules that should be followed based on standards 5. Knowledge of the trends and development prospects of the forest industries The knowledge that the students will acquire will be particularly useful for their employment in forest industries, in the establishment and organization of such an industry, but also in their participation in the effort to improve their operation.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Principles of establishment and operation of forest industries and Objectives. Types of Forest industries, raw materials, finished products, conditions and factors affecting their operation. Planning of forest industries (space, size, choice of technology and machinery, placement by space, production flow, raw materials, machinery). Principles of Ergonomics in the Design of the industrial space. Principles of organization and installation of production lines. Selection and organization of suitable raw materials. Training of personnel - Qualifications of workers in the field of industry. Correct waste/waste management from the operation of the industry - Recycling and reuse of raw materials - Ways to save energy. Application of rules/standards and certification of the way the forest industry operates. Technology – Installation of mechanical equipment – ​​Transport and loading/unloading machinery inside and outside industry. Functionality and maintenance of the machines. Handling of machinery and utilization of Materials - Selection factors of the appropriate mechanical equipment. Safety rules and means of protection. Fire safety rules and forest industry fire protection measures. Market Research, Competitive Advantage, Founding, Business Plan and Funding. Operation of forest industries in Greece and Europe – Development trends and perspectives – Interest in converting forest biomass residues into energy and biofuels. The concept, features and advantages, disadvantages of biorefinery. Forestry industries in Greece (wood, glued/composite wood products, chemical wood products, furniture, wooden constructions, biofuels, bioenergy, etc.).
