Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. apply basic and advanced reading strategies, such as the Five-Step Reading Method, to effectively understand a variety of contemporary texts.
2. produce concise summary texts (summaries, synopses, retellings) with clarity and accuracy, faithfully reflecting the content of authentic news articles.
3. analyze the structure, textual features, and rhetorical devices of modern journalistic articles, evaluating the reliability and the author’s intent.
4. use dictionaries and digital tools effectively to support reading comprehension and text production, expanding their vocabulary.
5. identify and critically evaluate information, recognizing fake news and applying fact-checking techniques.
6. produce their own short journalistic texts, applying acquired skills in analysis, summarization, and linguistic accuracy.

Description
Maximum number of participants: 30 students
1. Presentation of written assignments (10% of the final grade): Students present their written assignments in plenary sessions. Presentations are assessed based on their clarity, structure, argumentation, and the extent to which they adequately address the given task. Each assignment must be approved beforehand in order to be presented.
2. Written assignment (20% of the overall grade): This involves the development of a written paper focusing on research, structure, and analytical engagement with the topic.
3. Midterm examination (Test – 20% of the final grade): The midterm may include multiple-choice questions, short answers, and/or the writing of texts.
4. Final written examination (50% of the final grade): The final written exam covers the entire content of the course Ε_ΓΕΡ008 and evaluates the students’ in-depth knowledge.
Additional regulation: In order to successfully complete the course, students must achieve at least 50% of the points in each of the above assessment categories.
Students who fail to fulfil their obligations during the semester will unfortunately not be allowed to sit the examination — neither in January 2026 nor in September 2026 — and must, if necessary, retake the course.
